About Us
Atlantic Canada’s pizza, since 1991.
The first Alexandra’s was opened by Dimitri Neonakis in 1991 on Queen Street in Halifax.
The slogan
Home of the best pizza and poutine in town.
Very quickly loyal customers began spreading the word, saying “Alexandra’s has the best pizza and poutine in Halifax!” That’s where our slogan comes from. A slogan we’re very proud to still be able to use. “HOME OF THE BEST PIZZA AND POUTINE IN TOWN.”
Alexandra’s Poutine was soon voted “BEST IN TOWN” by the readers of The Coast Magazine too, and its reputation was further confirmed.
Then a guest host on a local radio station lamented the lack of good local poutine. The station was flooded with calls from Alexandra’s devotees expressing their love of the “BEST IN TOWN”. It’s been a top seller ever since and a source of pride for Alexandra’s.
The menu grew
Beyond pizza and poutine.
While Alexandra’s initially became known for its poutine and large variety of delicious pizza combinations (especially the fresh hot pizza slices available into the wee hours of the morning), customers soon started to appreciate the rest of the menu too. Garlic fingers, hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, salads, onion rings, fries, Mediterranean treats, and of course the ever-growing variety of Famous Poutine options.
Expansion
One Halifax kitchen, many neighbourhoods.
Alexandra’s expanded to Cole Harbour, Dartmouth in 2000, quickly becoming the favourite of residents in that area too. Alexandra’s has continued to expand as a franchise with shops throughout Halifax, Dartmouth, Fairview & Clayton Park, Lakeside (also covering Timberlea & Beechville), Hammonds Plains, Sackville, Spryfield, Sydney and Charlottetown, PEI, with more coming soon.
All of our franchise owners are local and many have their whole family working with them. Our regulars often tell us how much they like going into the shops because of the family feel. We believe this is just one of the simple joys of choosing a local, community-based business.
Alexandra’s is definitely not your typical fast-food outlet. Customers of Alexandra’s always enjoy a great homemade-food experience, friendly staff and clean, welcoming surroundings. We hope you’ll try us – if you haven’t already.
Pizza and beer? Yes please.
Now licensed at Grafton Street and many other locations.
Oh – did we mention that the original Queen Street location has moved to 1735 Grafton Street in Halifax and is licensed? Pizza and beer?
Yes please! During the summer you can enjoy it outdoors on the patio. Most of our shops are licensed too, with Cole Harbour offering a small selection of beer and wine and Charlottetown a full bar service.
Not every Alexandra’s holds a licence yet – Sydney, and possibly Hammonds Plains, are still on the way. If pizza and a pint is the plan, give your local shop a quick call beforehand to be sure.
Behind the counter
The team behind the pies.

From the left: founder Dimitri Neonakis; Fehmi Morina, long-time delivery driver (25 years and counting!); and Joseph Dembogaj, owner of our Grafton Street location.
Long-time crew
Twenty-five years on the road.
Mr. Marina has been delivering for our Fairview shop for around twenty-five years – one of the long-time team members who keep Alexandra’s feeling like family. A proper feature is on the way.
Dream Wings
Giving kids the joy of flight.
Dimitri Neonakis, in 2017, started his private charity called Dream Wings. A long-time pilot and aviation enthusiast, Dimitri wanted to give children with disabilities the opportunity to experience the joys of flight. And boy did he! To date he and his team of volunteer pilots have flown over 1,300 children and their families.
